Slackware 12 (I expected another 11.x version) RC 1 arrived just in time for summer. This is the perfect time for all you early adopters to try out the latest version of Slack with minimal instability. If you plan on upgrading to Slackware-Current please read the UPGRADE.TXT first and don’t forget to make a BACKUP.
Some of the more exciting changes in Slackware 12 are:
- k3b getting merged into the KDE package series from /extra
- kernel version 2.6 is now the default
- Xfce 4.4
- Dbus and HAL (without PAM)
- wpa_supplicant
- Compiz (a very interesting addition)
For a complete list of changes please see the ChangeLog.
